Attorney Gerald F. Petruccelli began his career as a professor at the University of Toledo College of Law and then the University of Maine Law School. He began doing appellate work during his teaching days, assisting lawyers in Portland firms. He has long been a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Jerry left full-time teaching to practice but continued to teach as an adjunct professor. His course offerings have included Civil Procedure, Evidence, Contracts, Commercial Law, Bankruptcy, Torts, Constitutional Law, Remedies, Copyrights, and The Legal Process. In 2022, he taught Civil Procedure at Boston College Law School.
His practice includes many years of diverse experience in civil trials and appeals in state and federal courts and several Maine administrative agencies. He is an experienced mediator and arbitrator and has served as an expert witness in professional liability matters. He has long been listed in Best Lawyers in American in multiple categories as well as Chambers USA Guide, Benchmark, and Super Lawyers and has a Preeminent AV Rating from LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell.

Jerry formerly chaired the Grievance Commission of the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar and the Cape Elizabeth Zoning Board of Appeals. He is an Honorary Life Director and Past President of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. In 2014, he received the National Service to Youth Award from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He has also served on the Boards of Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Maine Equal Justice, and the Maine Justice Foundation.
